Spooky October half term at Kew Bridge Steam Museum Print
Thursday, 23 October 2008 09:04
It’s ghosts and ghouls this half-term, October 27th - 31st, as Kew Bridge Steam Museum prepares for Halloween. A range of drop-in activities will be lined up for those on holiday, including an opportunity to make cards, masks and ghosts and other Halloween figures.

There’s also another chance to take part in the popular ‘Ghost Tours’. Take a candlelit journey into the depths of the museum on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October, to hear authentic ghost stories.

The tours will focus on reported sightings of ghosts in the hidden recesses of the museum, as well as the death of George Banfield in the Maudslay engine house in 1860. Museum legend has it that ghostly figures have been seen around the museum, including a man in a flat cap and white overall walking across the Steam Hall whistling, a young man with long hair who appeared and then just vanished, and another sighting of a man in a flat cap and donkey jacket in the old workshop, humming.

Ernest Buchner, Museum Director said: “Join us for a range of Halloween activities this half-term. Visitors on the candlelit tour are escorted by an experienced tour guide, and will include some behind the scenes areas normally not open to the public. On the tours we will try to see if we can sense any presences or indeed debunk the myths around the alleged ghosts.”

Costs:
Adult - £7.00
Concessions - £6.00
Children - £2.50

Charges for the candlelit tours include a glass of wine for adults, to steel any unsteady nerves and juice for younger visitors. Children must be accompanied by an adult and aged 8 or above. Tours start at 6.30pm and last about an hour with time for drinks and shopping afterwards - flat shoes are recommended and booking is essential.
