Kew Bridge welcomes back the Festival of Models

The weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October 2009 sees the return of the ever-popular Festival of Models. Open from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. this show is a great model boat and model engineering event, created last year by the combining of our Model boat and Festival shows.

Set amongst the giants of the industrial revolution and the age of Victorian steam power, every nook and cranny big enough for a table will be used to cram as many models as possible into the available space. To ensure continuing interest for all our visitors the show has an active policy of seeking different exhibits for each year’s event and the call is now out for exhibits for October 2009.

The models will be displayed in the museum’s galleries, divided into zones concentrating on one aspect of the modelling hobby. There will be stationary steam engines, fairgrounds and traction engines and model boats. Attractions will include a model boating pool with demonstrations and “have a go” sessions. Continued sponsorship from Edgecam (CADCAM software) means that one of the museum’s Cornish beam engines will be in steam at the event. Refreshments will be available in the tea shop and the museum railway will be running.

During the course of 2009 the Medway Queen Preservation Society will be holding a draw to raise funds for the restoration of the ship’s compound diagonal steam engine. The main prize is £1000, other prizes include a laptop computer donated by Black Cat PC Services of Rochester. The draw for the winning tickets will be made on Saturday 3rd October at this event.
