Kew Bridge Steam Museum is pleased to announce Infernal Combustion! A Celebration of Internal Combustion Power taking place on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th September 2011 between 11.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
Over the weekend of the of 10th & 11th September the Museum, more usually noted for its world-famous collection of steam engines, is holding an event focussed on the internal combustion engine. Large and small, petrol and diesel, we will be highlighting the diversity of the static internal combustion engine and the wide variety of uses they were put to before electric motors became commonplace.
We will be demonstrating our resident collection of large internal combustion engines, icluding the 1933 Allen Diesel pumping plant and the recently restored World War II Sulzer mobile emergency water pump. In addition, we will be demonstrating a variety of visiting engines, including several owned by members of the Sussex and Kent Weald Stationary Engine Group, together with other related artifacts and a photographic display drawn from our archive.
As usual, our collection of large steam pumping engines will be operating and our very own narrow gauge railway, using both steam locomotive ‘Thomas Wicksteed’ and Lister diesel locomotive ‘Alister’, will be giving rides to young and old alike on both days of the weekend.
